I thought the juxtaposition of Meredith and Derek and Calzona’s story lines was beautifully crafted. Throughout the entire episode we watched Callie and Arizona desperately piece together their dream wedding, only to have everything go wrong: they can’t legally tie the knot, Callie’s parents flip, the pastor backs out and Arizona misses her dead brother. Seriously, I had pretty much written it off from happening.

But then, in comes the fairy godmother — Bailey. In a beautifully written monologue, she convinces Callie to go through with her big day:

“You do not need the law, a priest or a mother to make your wedding real…Where do you think God is? He’s in you. He’s in me. He’s right in the middle of us. Your church just hasn’t caught up to God yet. Your mother hasn’t caught up to God yet.”

And she continues: “If you are willing to stand up in front of your friends and your family and God and commit yourself to another human being…honey, that is a marriage. That is real — and that’s all that matters.”

My god, Bailey is brilliant. This woman is a saint, so it’s perfectly fitting she is the one to perform the ceremony.

I appreciated how Calzona’s wedding was cut next to Meredith and Derek’s surprise decision to make their union legal.

In the episode, Derek falls in love with one of the African babies and convinces Mer to adopt. However, as they are filling out the paper work, they realize their odds of winning the child (who might be the most precious baby I’ve ever seen) are far better if they are legally married. After seasons and seasons of controversy on this very topic, Mer and Der waltz over to the court house and seal the deal. Easy as pie. Bye, bye “post it” marriage.

This entire sequence was cut in with Calzona’s lavish wedding. It was brilliant to show how easy it was for one couple –who didn’t even care — to legally marry, while the other worked tirelessly and still had to walk down the aisle in front of family and friends without the sanction of the government.

On the same note, Callie and Arizona have this baby they weren’t expecting in any capacity, while Meredith and Derek have struggled for a long time to have a child. And now they’ve chosen to adopt a foreign baby, which is one of the most tedious processes through which a couple can put themselves.

Bottom line: Life isn’t fair.

Speaking of not fair, did anyone else notice how April refused to put on a gown when she was helping the little girl who’s HIV-positive? This makes me VERY nervous. We’ve all been focusing on April losing her virginity. However, when the actress, Sarah Drew, has chatted with us, she’s said her character will go through a major story line near the end of the season — and it’s not popping her cherry. Who else thinks she’s about to have an HIV scare?

There have been several reports that Justin and Mila started hooking up while filming their comedy, which came out in theaters this summer. However, at the time, Justin wasn’t exactly single, as he was in a long-term relationship with Jessica Biel.

One of the sweetest moments of Twilight was when Edward and Bella danced to Iron & Wine’s “Flightless Bird, American Mouth” at their junior prom. In a nice bit of symmetry, the music supervisor for the first installment of Breaking Dawn chose to use it again for Edward and Bella’s wedding — this time listing it as the “Wedding Version.”

Maybe it’s because I’m such a nerd (and/or I absolutely adore Iron & Wine), but I love this decision. It’s almost as if this is Edward and Bella’s “song.”

Lion King brought in $22.1 million, while Brad’s passion project trailed with $20.7 million, Deadline.com reports. They’re both great openings, but let’s face it — the Lion King first came out in the ’90s!

In Brad’s defense, Moneyball WAS the highest-grossing baseball-themed movie ever. But still — Brad is a HUGE star and could definitely open movies bigger and better!
